School children from Saffron Walden, Essex, have created their own fan film, ‘Children of The Hobbit’, after one young Tolkien fan read The Hobbit.
The film stars children aged 9 to 11 from the R.A Butler Academy and St. Thomas More Catholic schools. The film was shot over eight days during the Easter holidays and was filmed in and around Saffron Walden with pupils and parents created all their own costumes and props.
Pupil Richard Bellamy was inspired to create the story are reading The Hobbit three times. Richard’s dad, Paul, filmed the story and said: “Richard is a big Hobbit fan, so we thought it would be nice to intertwine the story with Saffron Walden. We were spoilt for choice with all the fantastic scenery on offer. We live in such a wonderful place and we wanted to reflect that in the film. We make many references to the area during.”
The film will première this summer at the Saffron Screen community theatre.
